Timothy W. Simonds Managing Director - Marketing and Merchandising United Airlines |
Timothy "Tim" W. Simonds is the Managing Director in the Marketing and Merchandising divisions at United Airlines. He is based at the company's worldwide headquarters in Chicago.
Simonds joined United in 2004 as director of marketing for Ted and United Express, where he lead the start-up and expansion of Ted, United Airlines low-fare airline, and launched explus - a United Express® service featuring state-of-the-art regional jets, which offer United First® and Economy Plus® seating. In 2005, he was named director of brand strategy and research for United. He was promoted to Managing Director in spring of 2006, and is currently responsible for United's Marketing and Merchandising.
His marketing responsibility includes leading United's key brands, products, and customer segments (Global Service, 1K, Premier Executive, etc), and marketing communications. In his current role, Tim has helped develop a number of new products including Global Reception (a new private lobby in O'Hare), the design for new International First and Business Class lie-flat beds, new boarding processes, and redesigned Red Carpet Clubs. Tim also leads United's Merchandising division, which is responsible for $1.2B in ancillary revenue, which has nearly doubled in the past 3 years.
Prior to joining United, Simonds was with the Procter & Gamble Company for twelve years where he had various roles in Brand Management and Sales. Most recently, he was a brand manager on both the Cascade and Olay businesses.
Simonds holds a Masters of Management degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a bachelors degree from Northwestern University. He currently resides in Chicago with his wife and four children.
