Wally Brewster is senior vice president, marketing & communications at General Growth Properties, Inc., the nation’s second largest owner, developer and manager of over 200 regional shopping malls, master planned communities and mixed-use developments both domestically and internationally. Wally oversees a 10-division department that consists of: consumer research; market research; retailer productivity; corporate and investor communications; public affairs; public relations; field and corporate marketing; online marketing; global branding and product development.

With more than 20 years of retail marketing experience, Wally’s insight of the changing retail landscape merits top speaking engagements as well as serving as the company spokesperson for GGP with national media outlets. Most recently, Wally commissioned research to analyze and comprehend the impact of the “new” consumer in 2020 and how that translates to capture their time and share of wallet. In addition, Wally’s vast retail knowledge enables him to speak on a variety of topical issues, including trends impacting the economy and the shopping center industry, consumers’ psychographics versus demographics and the state of the consumer in a changing economy.

Wally began his career with General Growth Properties in 1995 as a regional vice president of marketing for GGP’s Third Party Management division. He assumed the position of vice president of corporate communications in the summer of 1999. Under his leadership, Wally aligned the corporate communications department with other corporate marketing divisions and was promoted to senior vice president of corporate marketing and communications in 2001, where he became a key leader on GGP’s executive team. In 2004, Wally was again promoted to senior vice president, marketing & communications aligning both corporate and field marketing functions. Most recently, Wally became an officer of General Growth and was appointed to the executive committee.

Wally is a member of many professional organizations, including the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). He holds a Senior Certified Marketing Director (SCMD) designation from ICSC, as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration with an emphasis on Business Marketing from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
